The 2018 International Red & White Show at World Dairy Expo attracted 268 quality animals for the appraisal of Judge Blair Weeks, Pleasant Valley, P.E.I., and Associate Judge Tom DeGroot, Rosedale, B.C., when it was held on October 4th and 5th in Madison, Wisconsin.
Grabbing grand champion and intermediate champion Red & White honours was Oakfield A Shampagne-Red-ET, the winning 4-year-old owned by Westcoast Holsteins, Chilliwack, B.C., and sired by Mr Apples Armani-ET. Shampagne was one of three milking class winners for Westcoast Holsteins who also won the show’s Premier Exhibitor banner. Tagged as senior champion and reserve grand champion was the first 4-year-old, Highcroft Absolute Lily-Red, an Apples Absolute-Red-ET daughter owned by Steve Smith and Anthony Crothers, Nicholasville, Ky. The honourable mention grand champion designation went to the reserve intermediate champion, Westcoast Defiant Addison, the Scientific B Defiant-ET daughter who had topped the senior 3-year-old class for Westcoast Holsteins.
A Lookout P Redburst-Red-ET daughter from the famed Apple cow, Ms Apples Aleda-Red-ET, was first 5-year-old and reserve senior champion for Westcoast.
A Canadian bred “Absolute-Red” daughter, Antia Absolute Joline, was second junior 3-year-old and honourable mention intermediate champion for new owner MilkSource Genetics, Kaukauna, Wis.
Junior champion honours went to Ms Kress-Hil Saphire-Red-ET, a Dymentholm Mr Apples Avalanche daughter who had placed first in the show’s biggest class of 40 fall heifer calves for Owen and Kendyll Kress and Savannah Barts, Newton, Wis. Finishing second in the senior calves and taking reserve junior championship was Synergy Jordys Spike-Red-ET, a Cycle McGucci Jordy-Red daughter owned by M.C. & E. Jauquet and M., C. & S. Haack, Pulaski, Wis. Tagged as honourable junior champion was OCD Jordy Lochness-Red-ET, a “Jordy-Red” daughter who had been first winter calf for Oakfield Corners Dairy, Oakfield, N.Y.
Oakfield Corners Dairy of New York took the show’s Overall Premier Breeder banner and won both Premier Breeder and Exhibitor honours in the Heifer Show. “Absolute-Red” was declared Premier Sire of the show. There was a tie for Junior Premier Sire with “Jordy-Red” and “Avalanche” sharing the title.
Among the other Canadian achievements in the show, Clarkvalley Holsteins, Woodville, Ont., London Dairy Farms, London, Ont., and Aaron Eaton, Marietta, N.Y., took first place in the summer yearlings with an “Avalanche” daughter, Rosedale Avala Lollipop-Red. A Canadian bred “Avalanche”, Weeberlac Tickle Me-Red-ET, was first spring yearling for Alyson Philips, Lingleville, Texas.
